1. Quick Start Checklist

Get your Expert Advisor up and running on MetaTrader in 4 easy steps:

Download Software: Log in to your Whop Hub (using the email from checkout) and download your EA file (.ex4 for MT4 or .ex5 for MT5) and recommended preset settings (.set).

Install in MetaTrader: In MetaTrader, open File → Open Data Folder → MQL4/Experts (or MQL5/Experts) and paste the EA file.

Allow WebRequest (Mandatory): Go to Tools → Options → Expert Advisors, enable Allow WebRequest, and add: https://boringea.com.

Attach & Activate: Drag the EA onto your chart, switch to the Inputs tab, paste your License Key (BEA-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX), and enable AutoTrading.

2. Downloading Your Software via Whop

All BoringEA software packages (Expert Advisors .ex4/.ex5 and initial setup bundles) are securely distributed through our official merchant partner Whop.

Instant Customer Access: Upon completing checkout, your product files and updates are permanently accessible in your personal Whop customer account.

How to Download Your Software on Whop:

Log in to Whop: Go to whop.com/hub using the same email address entered during checkout (or click "Access your content" in your Whop order confirmation email).

Select Your Product: In your Whop Hub, click on your purchased BoringEA product (e.g. Boring Pips or Dynamic Pips).

Download Files: Open the product's Files / Downloads tab to download:
  • .ex5 file for MetaTrader 5
  • .ex4 file for MetaTrader 4
  • Recommended presets package (.set / .zip)

Note: When new EA versions or updates are released, they will automatically appear in your Whop portal for download. Downloading updated software builds never consumes any of your 5 license activations.

3. Installing EA on MetaTrader (MT4 / MT5)

Follow these standard steps to install the Expert Advisor into your MetaTrader terminal:

  1. Open Terminal Data Folder:

    In your MetaTrader 4 or 5 terminal, click on the top menu: File → Open Data Folder.

  2. Paste the EA File:

    Navigate to:

    • For MT5: MQL5 → Experts
    • For MT4: MQL4 → Experts

    Paste your .ex5 or .ex4 file directly into this folder.

  3. Copy Preset Files (.set):

    (Optional but recommended) Paste your downloaded .set files into MQL4/Presets or MQL5/Presets so you can load them easily.

  4. Refresh Navigator:

    Return to MetaTrader. In the Navigator window (press Ctrl + N if hidden), right-click on Expert Advisors and choose Refresh. Your EA will appear in the list.

4. Terminal Settings: Allow WebRequest (Mandatory)

Essential Requirement: The EA verifies your license cryptographically with our secure servers. Without adding the WebRequest URL, MetaTrader will block network requests and the EA will not activate.

Step-by-step WebRequest configuration:

  1. In MetaTrader, click Tools → Options (or press Ctrl + O).
  2. Click on the Expert Advisors tab.
  3. Check the box: Allow Algo Trading (or Allow automated trading).
  4. Check the box: Allow WebRequest for listed URL.
  5. Double-click on <add new URL...> and paste the exact URL below:
https://boringea.com

Click OK to save your settings. You only need to do this once per MetaTrader terminal.

5. License Key Activation & Profile Management

Step 1: Retrieve your License Key

After your purchase, your License Key is automatically linked to your account:

  • Log in to your account and go to My Profile → My Licenses.
  • Click Show / Copy to copy your unique key (format: BEA-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX).
  • (If you completed checkout before creating an account, simply click "Add a license key" on your profile page to claim it with your verified email).

Step 2: Attach EA to Chart & Enter Key

  1. Open the recommended currency pair chart and timeframe (e.g. AUDCAD M5).
  2. Drag the EA from the Navigator panel onto the chart.
  3. In the settings window, switch to the Inputs tab.
  4. Find the License Key parameter at the top and paste your key.
  5. (Optional) Click Load to load your preferred preset .set file.
  6. Under the Common tab, ensure Allow Algo Trading is checked, then click OK.

Step 3: Verify Status on Chart

Look at the top-left information panel on your chart:

  • Licensed (1/5 PCs) — Successfully verified and trading active.
  • Grace mode — Temporary network disconnect; EA will retry automatically without closing active trades.
  • STOPPED — Key missing, invalid, or expired. Check inputs and WebRequest.

6. Quotas, Allowances & Best Practices

What You CAN Do
  • Run on up to 5 physical PCs / VPS instances per license key.
  • Run multiple MetaTrader terminals, charts, demo or real accounts on the same machine — counts as only 1 activation.
  • Perform backtests in Strategy Tester freely without a key.
  • Transfer to a new VPS anytime by clicking Reset in Profile.
What You CANNOT Do
  • Share, publish, or resell your license key.
  • Clone VPS/VM hard disks or terminal directories to run simultaneously on multiple machines.
  • Bypass, proxy, or tamper with the validation endpoint.
  • Repeatedly churn resets to run on dozens of machines concurrently.

7. VPS Operation & Risk Management

1. Continuous VPS Operation

Automated trading requires stable, 24/7 internet connectivity with low latency to your broker server. We strongly recommend hosting on a reliable Windows Forex VPS. Configure MetaTrader to automatically restart on Windows boot.

2. Broker-Side Stop Loss

All Boring EA strategies employ hard stop-loss orders sent directly to the broker. This ensures your account remains protected even during an unexpected VPS shutdown or internet disruption.

3. Terminal File Permissions

The EA stores a persistent machine token in Common\Files\BoringEA\device.seed. Ensure your Windows user has normal write permissions to this directory so the machine is not repeatedly seen as a new device.

8. Troubleshooting & Common Messages

If you encounter an error message on the chart, refer to the table below for quick resolution:

Chart Message Cause Solution
Licensed (x/5 PCs) Validation successful. Ready. No action required.
Add '...' in Allow WebRequest WebRequest URL not configured in MetaTrader. Follow Section 4: Add https://boringea.com in Tools → Options.
Missing / Invalid License Key format Empty or mistyped key in Inputs. Copy the exact key BEA-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX from your Profile → My Licenses.
MAX_ACTIVATIONS_REACHED Key already in use on 5 other machines. Go to Profile → My Licenses and click Reset on old or unused PCs.
HWID_BLOCKED Temporary machine lock due to rapid IP/VM churn. EA stays on chart and retries every ~5 mins. Unlocks automatically after cooldown (or reset via Profile).
HWID_REVOKED Terminal was reset from Profile. Wait 24 hours or attach EA to a registered terminal.
Grace mode Temporary server network interruption. EA continues running trades. Check VPS internet connectivity.
PRODUCT_MISMATCH Using a Boring Pips key on Dynamic Pips (or vice versa). Verify key matches the exact product in your Profile.
